1-2-1 full day workshop - £ 185 per person

Each and every 1-2-1 workshop is fully tailored to you and you alone. This allows Darren to plan the day fully and ensures that you receive his complete and undivided attention.

Before the workshop begins, Darren will be in touch to find out your current level of photography and what are you hoping to achieve from the day.

By the end of the workshop, you should have a good understanding about composition and light and the impact they have on your photographs. You should be able to look at a scene and determine what elements to have in your photograph (and just as importantly,) what to leave out of the shot.

While we cant promise you will be a master photographer by the end of the day, the aim is that you develop your photographic skills in order to benefit your photography long term. Location shoots generally take place on the Yorkshire Coast or in the Dales and are discussed with you nearer the time.

While the 1-2-1 sessions are ideal for anyone, more experienced photographers may simply want Darren to show them the, most photogenic locations in the area, with minimal instruction.

The day typically starts around noon and will last anywhere up-to 10 hours. An earlier start will be required, if the session is booked to take place during the winter months.

Whilst we appreciate that this is a 1-2-1 session, you may want to share the day (and cost) with a friend. For a pair of photographers working together the total cost per day would be £300.

F.A.Q's

  • Q) Are your workshops classroom based ?
  • A) No. All of our workshops take place on location, none are classroom based.
  • Q) What level of photographer do I need to be?
  • A) Any level. Darren is experienced at teaching photographers of all abilities – from complete beginner to aspiring professionals.
  • Q) What do I need to bring?
  • A) An SLR, Compact System or Bridge camera, (and if applicable any separate lenses), spare batteries and memory cards and tripod (if you have one).
  • There is nothing worse than been wet and miserable, so please wear suitable clothing and footwear (waterproof clothing, walking boots etc).
  • Something to eat and  drink  (it’s so easy forget to bring a drink, but you need to be hydrated or you literally, cant focus)
  • Q) Where are the locations ?
  • A) There are a number of possible locations in the dales  that will be visited and as always, weather and lighting conditions will dictate which of these will be suitable on the day in question.
  • Q) Is transport included ?
  • A) Transport is provided while on location, though you will need your own transport to get you to the meet up point.
  • Q) What if the weather is bad on the day?
  • A) If, the day beforehand, the forecast looks wet/poor, the day can be rearranged for an alternative, mutually convenient, date.
  • Q)  Do I need to be fit
  • A) A reasonable degree of physical fitness is required as some locations may involve a short walk on rough terrain.
  • Q) Is there an age limit ?
  • A) Any persons under the age of 16, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

Anything else

  • Think about what  you want to get out of your session - what are you hoping to achieve form the day ?
  • One of the main aims on any of our courses, is to get you to turn off your cameras 'automatic settings', this allows YOU to make the decisions, not the camera.
  • Read your manual (or bring it with you). All cameras are slightly different and as much as I would like to understand all cameras and their little quirks and foibles, sadly. The quicker we find what we require (eg single point focus), we will have more time to photograph.
  • At the end of the session, you will see an instant improvement in your work and you will have the confidence and knowledge to take your photography to the next level.

Whats included

  • All tuition during the workshop
  • Any transport during the workshop

and whats not

  • Lunch or drinks
  • Travel to and from the agreed meeting point.
  • Insurance (please make sure you have appropriate travel and medical insurance).

  • An invoice will be issued 10 days prior to the date of the workshop (exact location, meeting place and time will also be confirmed at this stage)
  • The outstanding balance is due 72 hours before the workshop takes place.

What happens once I have booked and paid my deposit for a 1-2-1 session

  • This will also give us the chance to talk to you and what you are hoping to achieve from the day itself.
