What is a portrait ?
Very simply, it is a representation of a person (or persons), in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person.
A portrait can encompass many forms and is no longer limited to an individual, or group, ‘stood against a plain background’, being directed on how to stand or how to pose.
Times change, you don't have to be photographed that way anymore, you don't have to 'force' a smile or be something you are not.
What types of portraits do you photograph ?
The portraits we capture vary wildly and can be anything you can think of. Though they usually take the form of the following :
- Single portrait
- Family portrait
- Family event (Christenings, birthday parties, golden weddings etc)
- New Born
- Maternity
- Pet
- Group (business or pleasure)
- Event (theatre shows, concerts, garden parties etc)
- Headshots (for PR purposes, Company websites and so forth)
- Company events (awards, product launches, work parties etc)
- Actors and Musicians (musicians, concerts, album covers, demo's promotional or just to get your portfolio up to date)
Why don't we use a studio ?
We want you to be relaxed, comfortable and happy, so we can capture the real you. Unless you are a model or somebody who is very comfortable in a studio, this is not a normal situation for most people (especially so for children and animals).
We find that the best place to photograph you, is in an environment where you are most comfortable (be it a local park, your home or anywhere you feel happy or relaxed).
Shooting in the outdoor, is altogether more enjoyable and relaxing, A beautiful location is ideal due to the changing seasons and colours which give a unique atmosphere and character to each photograph.
To us, a documentary approach to taking a portrait is completely different to the studio experience. It is about documenting and capturing the real you. We get the chance to bond with you and (hopefully) we can capture you at the perfect moment. For children and pets, we talk to them, we interact, we get down to their eye-level and watch them play, watch them just be themselves. This interaction lets us capture them (and you) at the right moment.
