Learn the basics of photography - £ 40 per person (max group size is 10)

Currently there are 3 different locations where we run our 'learn the basics of photography' sessions :  Guiseley, Ilkley and Otley.

As the name implies, these courses are basic, but do give you an idea of aperture, Iso, shutter speed and composition whereby the ultimate aim is to get you off your cameras 'Auto settings', by the time the course is finished.

All taster sessions last approx 2 - 2.5 hours.

Everyone who attends a taster session, will also receive a 10% discount off a future photography workshop of their choice (half-day and upwards).

If you would like to book a slot, please see the dates the courses are running and select the 'book now' button below.

This will take you to a separate form where we would ask you to confirm the date of the course you are interested in..

Please note, payment is required in full upon confirmation of booking.

All workshops start at 10am (unless noted)

Are you looking to purchase a course for a gift, but unsure of the location or date ?. You can now purchase a gift voucher and the recipient can select the date and location themselves by visiting 'Shop' above or by clicking the link directly below.

F.A.Q's

  • Q) Are your workshops classroom based ?
  • A) No. All of our workshops take place on location, none are classroom based.
  • Q) What level of photographer do I need to be?
  • A) Any level. Darren is experienced at teaching photographers of all abilities – from complete beginner to aspiring professionals.
  • Q) What do I need to bring?
  • A) An SLR, Compact System or Bridge camera, (and if applicable any separate lenses), spare batteries and memory cards and tripod (if you have one).
  • There is nothing worse than been wet and miserable, so please wear suitable clothing and footwear (waterproof clothing, walking boots etc).
  • Something to eat and  drink  (it’s so easy forget to bring a drink, but you need to be hydrated or you literally, cant focus)
  • Q) Where are the locations ?
  • A) There are a number of possible locations in the dales  that will be visited and as always, weather and lighting conditions will dictate which of these will be suitable on the day in question.
  • Q) Is transport included ?
  • A) Transport is provided while on location, though you will need your own transport to get you to the meet up point.
  • Q) What if the weather is bad on the day?
  • A) If, the day beforehand, the forecast looks wet/poor, the day can be rearranged for an alternative, mutually convenient, date.
  • Q)  Do I need to be fit
  • A) A reasonable degree of physical fitness is required as some locations may involve a short walk on rough terrain.
  • Q) Is there an age limit ?
  • A) Any persons under the age of 16, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

Anything else

  • Think about what  you want to get out of your session - what are you hoping to achieve form the day ?
  • One of the main aims on any of our courses, is to get you to turn off your cameras 'automatic settings', this allows YOU to make the decisions, not the camera.
  • Read your manual (or bring it with you). All cameras are slightly different and as much as I would like to understand all cameras and their little quirks and foibles. The quicker we find what we require (eg single point focus), we will have more time to photograph.
  • At the end of the session, you will see an instant improvement in your work and you will have the confidence and knowledge to take your photography to the next level
  • Darren is fully DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked.
